The Delhi Police foiled an attempt by the notorious Neeraj Bawana gang to free Vikas laggarpuria, a member of the gang. The gang hatched a conspiracy to help laggarpuria escape from police custody while being produced at Dwarka court. Crime Branch sleuths arrested four members of the gang who had come to court with the intention to commit the crime.

The arrested have been identified as Pankaj, Nizam, Ravi and Vikas Dabas, all members of a gang led by a 'local criminal' Neeraj Bawana, said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav. Police recovered three country-made automatic pistols of .32 bore with 18 live cartridges and a car from their possession. Pankaj, who is a history sheeter, is allegedly involved in 20 cases.

“We had information that the Neeraj Bawana gang was making attempts to help Vikas laggarpuria escape from jail. laggarpuria is a hardened criminal and is involved in several cases. Accordingly a Crime Branch team was put on the job to track down the gang members and bring them to justice. On March 4, we arrested them when they arrived at Dwarka court to execute their plan. We encountered them and asked to surrender,” Yadav said.

“All of a sudden, one person sitting near the driver came out and tried to fire at Head Constable Dilbagh Singh. Meantime two others tried to escape by brandishing their pistols,” Yadav said. The gang

had planned to help laggarpuria escape when he would be produced at the court. Their plan was that as laggarpuria would be produced by one or two constables, he would push them and escape from the custody and take his position in the car already parked in front of the main gate of the court,” the Additional CP added.
