Forged MP letterhead leaves police in tizzy

Published on:

Two cases — mobile snatching and forged letterhead related to MPs — registered in the Parliament Street Police station a few days ago have left many shocked as police have not made any breakthrough.

In the first incident, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) Rajesh Kumar Diwakar got a call from the Railway Ministry reservation cell a few days ago that someone was using his letterhead to get his railway reservation ticket confirmed.

When the MP from Hathras lok Sabha seat found out that his forged letterhead was used to seek favours, he immediately asked the Rail Ministry Reservation Cell to forward him the letterhead.

“When I checked the letterhead, I found that my name was wrongly spelt and my number too was wrongly printed on it. The cheat has been using my name to get undue favours. The letterhead looks like my letterhead but has been forged and I believe there is some conspiracy against me,” alleged Diwakar.

Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) based on Diwakar’s complaint under sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In the second incident, lok Sabha BJP MP AT Nana Patil’s Personal Secretary (PS) Pandurang Karbari, was out for an evening walk outside the MP’s bunglow the lutyens’ Zone a few days ago when two bike-borne assailants came speeding and snatched his mobile phone (MOTO X play) and fled from the spot.

“I was out at around 10.40 pm when the incident happened. I did not see the bike number nor the bike. The mobile phone had two SIMs. One was an MTNl number which belonged to the MP and the other, a Reliance JIO SIM that belonged to me,” alleged Karbari in his complaint to police. Karbari used the MTNl number to call people on behalf of the MP.

“We have not found any clue yet and are checking the CCTV footages,” said a senior police official.

A case in this regard under section 379 (theft), 356 (snatching) and 34 (involvement of more persons) of the Indian Penal Code was registered.
