Environment and Forest Minister Imran Hussain on Wednesday expressed concern over the ineffective monitoring of the tree plantation drives being organised by various greening agencies across Delhi.

Hussain expressed his views in a meeting of senior officers of the Department of Forest and Wildlife, in which plantation drives by the different greening agencies viz Horticulture Wings of North DMC, South DMC, East DMC, CPWD, PWD, DDA, Delhi Parks and Garden Society (DPGS) and Forest Department  were reviewed.

The Minister directed that Nodal Officers be nominated by all Greening Agencies immediately who shall submit daily progress report on new plantation in the ongoing monsoon season.

Regular progress reports should be submitted by the Nodal Officers to the Department of Forest and Wild life, and a consolidated copy be submitted by the Department of Forest and Wildlife to the Minister, he added.

He also directed that the Department of Forest and Wild life shall constitute an inter-departmental Committee, consisting officers of greening agencies to ensure independent monitoring of the tree plantation drive being organised by different agencies particularly in this monsoon season.

The Minister also directed that responsibility be fixed on erring officers.
