For retired DTC staff, court their last resort

Fed up with the indifferent attitude of the Government and the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) over their pension issues, thousands of retired DTC employees are planning to go to court as their last resort.

Over 12 thousand pensioners of the DTC had been running from pillar to post for getting their dues for the last many months. They had also held protest march many times. But they were disappointed with inaction of the authorities. Despite raising their demands again and again, they are finally considering to go to court for the redressal.

However, they are still hopeful as they have been seeking an appointment with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over the issue. Sources said if the Government doesn’t take a decision in their favour within one week of the meeting with the CM, then they will have no choice but go to court.

Co-chairman of the DTC Pensioner Welfare Association Rajsingh Verma said in his recent meeting with the MD of the DTC, the final decision will be taken by the Delhi Cabinet. Verma added that he has written to CM Kejriwal seeking an appointment to discuss the matter. “If a resolution is not arrived during the meeting, we will have no other option except approaching the courts,” he said.

While on other hand, DTC employees who retired after June 2015 have not been getting their pension, even those pensioners who were being regularly paid earlier have also not got their pension on a regular basis since last nine months. A retired DTC employee said that he was earlier getting pension with a gap of one or two months, now he hasn’t got any pension since the last three months.
