In what may come as great news for the commuters, a part of the new Magenta line of Delhi Metro may soon start functioning as Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started trial runs on the 3.5 km long stretch between Kalindi Kunj Depot and Okhla Vihar Metro station.
Once completed, the Magenta line (or line 8) of Delhi Metro will connect Janakpuri West Metro Station with Botanical Garden Metro Station and will have a total length of 38 km. This line will have a total of 25 stations out of which, 10 will be elevated stations and 15 will be underground. Ridership is expected to be 3.6 lakh from Janakpuri West to Kalindi Kunj and 46 thousand from Kalindi Kunj to Botanical Garden.
“Three train sets have already been received in the Kalindi Kunj depot,” said Metro officials.
Metro officials said during the trials, the interface of the Metro train will be checked to ensure that there is no physical infringement with civil infrastructure during the movement of the train on the track. Apart from that, testing of various subsystems of coaches shall also be done simultaneously.
“The response of the train at different speeds, braking of the train and the interconnection with the Operations Control Centre (OCC) will also be monitored during the trials. The behaviour of the track system and the Over Head Electrification (OHE) will be checked repeatedly,” officials said.
“later on, in stages, the new signaling technology to be implemented on this corridor and Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) will also undergo rigorous testing,” they added.
