Extensive contact tracing, surveillance of Covid-19 cases, use of digital format, strict enforcement and vigil in eight large hot spot regions and in 104 containment zones in Gurugram with minimum and effective use of manpower are a few key points of the Gurugram police to curb the spread of Novel coronavirus under the guidance of newly appointed police commissioner KK Rao.
However, for the implementation of these measures, the police will use a digital format and awareness campaigns. The efficient use of the police force is also one of the objectives.
While performing all there measures the policemen will not compromise on their personal safety and norms of social distancing.
“Residents itself known do and don’t about the coronavirus and they cannot be forced to remain indoor. The Gurugram police have already started extensive awareness campaigns about the novel coronavirus for the safety of the residents of the district. Now the force will more focus on extensive contact tracing, surveillance of Covid-19 cases, strict enforcement and we will increase vigil in hot-spot areas to trace Covid-19 cases,” Rao said adding that such measures will help to detect Covid cases and thus helping in its timely quarantine.
He further said that safety for cops from the virus is equally important and they are educating policemen through videos and other ways to remain safe from the virus.
Besides this, all 40 police stations in Gurugram have been directed to receive online complaints to minimize crowd at the police station. “Glass shield cabins have been installed at police stations for receiving complaints. We urge people to visit police stations only when necessary and submit their complaints online. Complainants, if visiting a police station, should come alone for filing complaints instead of in groups,” Rao said.
He informed that more than 2,000 cops are on the Covid19 duty and only those who are physically fit are assigned duties in containment zones. Out of 2,000 cops 918 deployed at nakkas, 116 cops deployed with medical teams, 53 personnel deployed at different hospitals, a number of 83 policemen deployed at quarantine centers 83 and 850 policemen deployed at containment zones.
Those who are above 50 years of age or suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, heart, kidney, cancer and any other health issues are kept away from duties in containment zones.
Apart from this, a dedicated medical team for policemen is conducting regular health check-ups and supplying them with vitamin supplements, nutrition food, and protective gear like face shield, mask gloves, sanitizers and PPE kits.
Contact tracing, one of the important aspects of containing the spread of the novel coronavirus, for this the city police have started using the Geofence technology to track people who have been quarantine an alert will be sent to the officials if anyone jumps the quarantine.
Recently the police chief held a meeting of all DCPs and directed them to take more extensive effort for contract tracing and increase patrolling in containment zone during the night curfew.
Till now MCG has given a list of around 1500 people out of which 1200 has been traced and 270 people are yet to be traced as they had given mobile numbers and addresses. “Now since the ID and phone numbers have been made mandatory for testing in the district, the situation of contact tracking has improved,” Rao asserted adding that contract tracing is important to contain the spread of the virus.
“As of now a number of 88 policemen infected with Coronavirus in which 4 are still under observation at police isolation center in Manesar. Also, we have given a cash reward of Rs 5,000 for our corona warriors (policemen) infected with Covid 19 and recovered. Also, around 6,000 challans have issued against offenders for not wearing face masks,” said Nitika Gahlaut DCP (headquarter).
She informed that phone calls have been made to about 5 thousand suspected Covid patients for contact tracing. Out of these, those who were not picking up calls or phones were switch-off, police did physical verification of around one thousand such people, they have been told to keep their phone on and answer the call.
