In a major relief to Jangpura residents and hundreds of people working at the CGO complex, the much-delayed foot overbridge (FoB) near Jangpura Metro station is now open for public.
It is due to the High Court’s intervention that authorities were forced to expedite the construction process of the bridge, said residents. The construction work on the bridge had started last year and was completed by August.
“It was almost impossible to cross the road due to heavy traffic on the stretch. With the FoB now in place, residents and officegoers can have a safe passage. The Resident Welfare Association (RWA) moved Court in 2010 regarding the issue of safety of pedestrians. After a long wait, the area has a FoB in place,” said Kapil Kakar, president, Jangpura Extension Welfare Association.
located near Jangpura Metro station, the FoB will provide accessibility to the Metro station as well as Pant Nagar bus stop. “The FoB was inaugurated after a team of engineers inspected the lifts located on either side of it. Built at a cost of approximately Rs 3 crore, the FoB is 37.6 m long, 2.8 m wide and 5.8 m high from the road. For the differently-abled, it has ramps on both sides of it,” said an official of Delhi Government.
The project was executed by Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System (DIMTS), which was responsible for constructing the present Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Corridor from Ambedkar Nagar to Delhi Gate, which could only be possible till Moolchand.
