Five-member panel to probe Airport Metro line mess

Published on:

Delhi Metro’s Board of Directors has formed a five-member special committee to look into the recommendations of two members enquiry constituted by Ministry of Urban Development to probe the Airport line mess.

The committee is headed by Secretary (Urban Development Ministry) Dr Sudhir Krishna. Top sources said that Board of Directors of Delhi Metro met on Wednesday and approved a proposal for setting up a

five-member committee to examine the enquiry report submitted by Airport line Enquiry Committee on Airport line mess. Dr Sudhir Krishna will be chairman while two members will be from Delhi Government and two from Ministry of Urban Development since both Delhi Government and the Centre have an equal stake in Delhi Metro.

Sources said that the committee will examine the enquiry report and replies given by Delhi Metro. The Airport line Enquiry Committee had found deficiencies in the project and had held DMRC top management responsible, including current chief Mangu Singh, Kumar Keshav, the then director (projects) and RN Joshi, the then director (finance). Mangu Singh was director (works) then.

Slamming the top brass of Delhi Metro, the committee in its findings had further said that they should also share responsibility for its failure. The report also came down heavily on Delhi Metro for lionising IJM, a contractor with no experience.  The report mentioned that improper execution resulted in cracks, damaged underside girders. The slapdash grouting had led to the closure of the Airport line.
