The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested five people, including two juveniles, on charges of robbing and murdering a jeweller’s wife in East Delhi. The incident occurred on November 7 in Mayur Vihar area. Three other juveniles involved in the case are absconding. These juveniles are the ones who had fled from Kingsway Camp reformation home some time back.
“The accused have been identified as Mahesh Gupta alias Sunny (24), Ajay Rai (35), Narsing Kumar Verma (35) and two juveniles. Ajay is a prominent member of Ranvir Sena in Bihar. He has 14 criminal cases against him in Bihar. Two motorcycles, two countrymade pistols, four live cartridges, a switchblade as well as 50 kilo silver ornaments have been recovered from their possession,” said Ravindra Yadav, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch).
Acting on a tip off, Mahesh Gupta, a cable operator in East Ashok Nagar area was arrested by police. On sustained interrogation, he revealed that five juveniles were also a part of the gang. The other two juveniles were arrested on his disclosure. The looted silver ornaments of about 50 kilo were recovered from the house of Narsing Verma, who runs a jewellery shop in Kulesara, Noida and Ajai Rai, who runs a retail store in Kulesara. The interrogation of the arrested persons revealed that Narsing earlier had a jewellery shop in New Ashok Nagar where he met Mahesh. Since Narsing was facing a slump in business, he shifted his trade to Kulesara; he was in dire need of lucre. Hence, the duo decided to make a quick buck. Narsing was aware Ajay Gupta ran a silver ornament trade. On the pretext of striking a business deal, Narsing took Mahesh to the victim’s house for a recce. In October, some juveniles in conflict with law had escaped from Sewa Kutir, Kingsway Camp after setting records on fire. The mastermind, Mahesh, knew the juveniles well and had them execute the crime.
