First blast of winter hits city

Delhi received its first blast of the coldest morning this season with the minimum temperature settling below 10°C on Sunday. The minimum temperature swayed three degree below normal to settle at 9.2°C announcing the onset of winter in the national Capital. Even the maximum temperature on the day dropped a notch below from the normal to settle at 26°C.

The meteorological department does not forecast further dip in mercury in the next 10 days. “Further fall in the temperatures is not predicted in the near future and the temperatures will more or less remain the same in the coming week. Though early morning mist is predicted in the coming days, there are no chances for the formation of fog or rain,” said DP Yadav, director of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

He added that going by the early signs, the western disturbance will hit the city by the end of the month and this might bring some change in the weather conditions. “Western disturbance is likely to hit the city by November 25 or 26. This could alter weather conditions,” he added.

A Met official said the maximum temperature was forecast at 27°C but they recorded it at 26°C and it shows that the coming days will be cooler. However, no rainfall was recorded from any part of the city. The weather department has forecast the maximum temperature at 27°C on Monday while the minimum will rise to 10°C. The sky would remain mostly clear.
