The Delhi Police has registered an FIR after a 34-year-old man was bitten by a monkey in Mayur Vihar Phase-II area. The victim told police that the monkey had bitten several people in the locality. A case under the Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) has been registered with Pandav Nagar police. Police said that they have approached civic agencies to curb the monkey menace in the area.

The incident in question took place in Pocket-C in Mayur Vihar Phase-II on March 18, when Arvinda Akshan, an employee in Noida-based company, was on his way to office. “It was a horrific morning for me. I just left my home and was walking on the street when a big money came from behind and bit me on my neck and face,” Akshan told The Pioneer.

“Hearing my screams, a few passersby rushed towards me and shooed away the monkey. I got so scared that I rushed to a house and close the door, soon after being released from its clutches,” said Akshan, who lives with his wife. “Some steps should be taken up to reduce this menace,” he added.

A person identified as Harish Chandra, who lives in the same locality, informed the police and took Akshan to a nearby hospital from where the doctors referred him to lal Bahadur Shastri (lBS) Hospital.

“Two days later, I was told that the same monkey attacked a security guard,” he added. Radhe Krishna, who lives in the same locality, said that this is not the first incident. Residents said such attacks by monkey are often and but no one is doing anything. “We have complained several times with the police and civic agencies about such problem,” said Krishna.

A senior police officer told The Pioneer that they have registered a case against “unknown persons” at Pandav Nagar police station and approached the East Delhi Municipal Corporation for catching stray monkeys as the simians have spread terror in the area.
