The Delhi Police on Tuesday registered an FIR against Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal for allegedly revealing the identity of the Burari minor rape victim who died on Sunday.
A notice was sent by the Delhi Commission for Women to the SHO of Burari on July 22, in which Maliwal had mentioned name of the victim, said a senior police officer.
Senior officers of the North District said a case under Section 228 (a) ( Disclosure of the identity of the victim of certain offences ) of the IPC has been registered against Maliwal at the Burari police station.
Maliwal has been at the forefront of raising the plight of the victim and criticised Delhi Police for not arresting the accused. She had also visited the victim on the day the notice was issued by DCW to the SHO Burari.
The 14-year-old Dalit victim, who was allegedly sexually assaulted and tortured by the accused, Shiv Shankar, in North Delhi’s Burari area, had succumbed to injuries on Sunday at a Delhi hospital after she was forced to drink a corrosive substance by her alleged attackers.
