The Special Cell of Delhi Police has registered an First Information Report (FIR) against a unnamed man for allegedly hurting the sentiments of various religions and trying to stir communal disharmony among the people through his post on social media giant Instagram.

Police said that the FIR was registered on Tuesday after a complaint over an email was received by the cyber crime unit (CyPAD) from Manjeet Singh Chugh, a resident of Delhi’s South Extension area.

According to the FIR, an Instagram account, ‘@valorious.hindu.21’posted objectionable content related to three Gods of different religions which the complainant came to know through a message which he received on his WhatsApp on June 7.

“There are four Instagram accounts including ‘@valorious.hindu.21’ which contain vulgar, abusive and objectionable content against various religions,” stated the FIR.

“Police have registered an FIR under section 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and further investigation is going on,” said a senior police official.

Last week, a Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician, Manish Singh, had filed a complaint with Delhi Police against Instagram for the alleged offensive portrayal of Hindu deity Shiva in one of its GIFs.
