A criminal case has been registered by the Delhi Police against the parents of a girl, who had eloped with a youth, for giving false evidence in a court that their daughter was kidnapped by four men. A FIR was lodged against the parents following a court’s order, which found that they had deliberately furnished incorrect information to the police regarding their daughter’s kidnapping even after knowing that it was false and had also deposed falsely on oath.

“The father and mother of the girl had also misled the investigating officer and tried to implicate persons... Who had no concern with the incident only because they were into litigation with them earlier but also made false statements on oath in this regard before this court. This they did knowing that their daughter had voluntarily eloped with a man and was in contact with them on their mobile phone which information also they deliberately concealed from the IO,” Additional Sessions Judge Kamini lau said.

The court directed the SHO of Vijay Vihar police station to register the case for giving false evidence and other offences committed against public justice. An FIR was then registered on April 7 at Vijay Vihar police station for the offence of perjury. The court ordered registration of FIR while deciding a kidnapping case in which it acquitted Uttar Pradesh native Umesh saying the police have failed to prove its case against him and the girl had eloped with him as they were in love and their families were against their relationship.

The parents of the girl had lodged a case that their daughter was kidnapped by four men in August 2012 when they knocked the door of the complainant’s house and after entering, they took away their daughter, who was on the verge of being a major, and locked the door from outside. The parents had suspected the girl has been kidnapped by their neighbour Umesh. During investigation, the girl was recovered from Mahapaya Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh and Umesh was arrested.
