Fill vacancies in Govt schools: loP

Published on:

leader of Opposition (lOP) in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta has demanded the Delhi Government to expedite the process of filling up the 70 per cent vacant post of teachers in the Government Schools.

Gupta said the issue of vacant positions is seriously hampering the functioning of schools, leading to poor performance by the students in Secondary and Senior Secondary Examination.

The lOP said there is no point boasting that the Government has double fold expenditure on education, unless there are regular teachers to ensure delivery of education facilities.   He said without the full strength of teachers, it will not be possible to ensure quality education and all round development of children.

He further said the Government is issuing misleading advertisements about high standard of education in Delhi Government's School and parent teacher meetings, while the reality is very different.

“There are 26,031 posts of teachers lying vacant in Delhi Government School.  The standard proportion of 1:35 of teacher and students has risen to 1:100.  The Government did fill the vacant posts, but it created 9000 more posts of teachers.  It brings the total strength of vacant post to more than 25000,” he added.

“Despite shortage of teachers, large number of teachers were made to do non- teaching work viz Election Duty.  It leads to a situation where students are not able to complete the syllabus.  It shows in the results of students in board exams.  Majority of them fail in the exams and even those who pass, manage it with avery low percentage,” said Gupta.
