In view of the FIFA U-17 World Cup matches, the Delhi Traffic Police (DTP) has issued an advisory on Wednesday alerting commuters about the potential traffic snarls on Delhi roads.

Since the matches at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium will be held on October 6, 9, 12 and 16, for the convenience of public and spectators, certain traffic restrictions will be affected around Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium with a view to ensure smooth flow of traffic, said Garima Bhatnagar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic).

The officer said that traffic on three corridors — Bhishma Pitamah Marg, JlN Stadium Marg and CGO Road — will be affected because of the restrictions between 2pm and 11pm on match days. No heavy and commercial vehicles will be allowed to ply on Bhishma Pitamah Marg and JlN Stadium Marg. The movement of heavy and commercial vehicles including buses will not be allowed on Maharishi Raman Marg and Max Mueller Marg. Commuters can use Ring Road, Chetna Marg, Defence Colony and lodhi Road as alternative routes for travelling in South Delhi. Commuters are advised to use the stretch between Ring Road and Ashram for travelling towards south Delhi, said a statement from the traffic police.

The traffic police advised commuters coming from east Delhi and Noida to use the route between Vikas Marg and Upper Ridge Road.

The spectators and commuters, including those employed in the office complexes of SCOPE Complex, CGO Complex and adjoining areas, are advised to use public transport on match days, said the officer. There is no parking for spectators in the vicinity of the stadium, she added. The city traffic police have also advised people coming in their personal vehicles for the matches to use car pool to the maximum so that there is less congestion on the roads, said the statement. Those availing personal transport can park their vehicles at Bhairon Mandir and take DTC shuttle bus to the stadium, added the officer.

Meanwhile, DTC has made special arrangements. As per the statement released by the Delhi Transport Corporation, "A large number of spectators are likely to visit by their own vehicles and public transport to see the matches.   Accordingly, keeping in view the convenience of spectators DTC has made arrangements for free Park and Ride facility from Bairon Mandir Parking to J.l.Nehru Stadium and back for the users of their own vehicles.  Park and Ride facility shall be made available on match day from 1430 hrs. to 2300 hrs. with 12 AC buses." Apart from Park & Ride facility, 34 extra buses will also be added to the bus routes passing through/around J.l.Nehru Stadium to ensure the availability of buses at a good frequency.  These extra buses will be added in the evening shift to the bus routes passing through J.l.Nehru Stadium, CGO Stand (lala lajpat Rai Marg), Bhisham Pitameh Marg and Sunheri Pullah Depot Stand (lodhi Road).
