Fence eating the crop! 3 greedy cops sent packing

This is a classic case of fence eating the crop. Two sub-inspectors of Delhi Police and a head constable posted with North-West district, who illegally detained a jeweller for extortion have been booked after an FIR was lodged against them in the same police station.

The two SIs and the head constable were nailed during a vigilance enquiry that suggested that the trio had extorted Rs 5 lakh from the victim and some jewellery too. They delinquent policemen have been sent to district police lines. They were posted with Mahendra Park police station and may face further punitive departmental action for their act that had besmirched the image of the force.

It has been learnt that a local jeweller was illegally detained for almost 36 hours by the accused cops and he was asked to cough up Rs 5 lakh for his release. The victim in his complaint to the top brass of Delhi Police alleged that the said police officials had threatened to book him in a case if he failed to pay them the illegal gratification, a police official said.

After being released from the clutches of the greedy cops, the victim lodged a complaint with the Vigilance wing about his illegal detention and the extortion. On his complaint, Vigilance Department initiated an inquiry and inquiry officer found that allegations levelled by the victim were true and fair. After the vigilance report was sent to the North-West Delhi Police, a case under Sections of Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the three police personnel. They were sent packing to the district police lines by the district police chief and further proceedings are on in this case.
