A 28-year-old Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Sub-Inspector allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with his service pistol inside Kalkaji metro station on Thursday evening. Police said no suicide note was found at the spot or from his body and investigations are on to find out reasons behind the suicide.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Delhi Metro, Jitender Mani said the deceased has been identified as Bhagat Singh, who was married with two kids and was a native of Uttar Pradesh.
Mani further said the incident took place at around 4:30 pm when Singh allegedly locked himself in the CCTV room of Kalkaji Metro.
Police said Singh was shouting from inside the room that he would kill himself when metro staff from outside was banging the door and asking him to let them in.
The incident created panic in station. Passengers gathered in huge numbers and CISF security also started preparing to break open the door.
But before any rescue operation could be conducted a loud bang was heard. When CISF personnel broke into the room they found Singh lying on the floor bleeding profusely from the head, said the police official.
A call to the police was made and Singh was rushed to the nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. He was then taken to AIIMS Mortuary for postmortem.
"Inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC was initiated and reasons behind the suicide are being investigated," added Mani.
