Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia will hold a meeting on Friday with Principal Secretaries/ Secretaries/HoDs to discuss the issue of contractual employees/staff working in the State Government.
According to sources, Kejriwal will discuss the issue of contractual employees with all departments and find out ways to make them permanent employees. Officials have been directed to bring details of contractual employees/staff of their departments to the meeting.
During the elections, Kejriwal had promised to make all contractual employees as permanent employees. After assuming the charge of Chief Minister of Delhi, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) had issued an order, directing all departments not to remove contractual staff till further notice. But, despite the order, there were complaints that departments were not renewing contracts of employees.
The workers, posted in various departments of the Delhi Government, have been working as teachers, nurses, paramedical staff etc for the past many years on contractual basis. It is noted that during his 49-day regime, Kejriwal had ordered the then Chief Secretary SK Srivastava to bring a policy to make contractual employees permanent.
The AAP Government has been facing protests from contractual employees who are demanding to make them permanent.
“We had met the Chief Minister earlier and he had assured us that we will be made permanent. But so many days have passed but not a single step has been taken,” one of the contractual workers said.
