Fasting Nirpreet's deteriorating health worries Delhi Police

Published on:

With the condition of Nirpreet Kaur deteriorating alarmingly, the Delhi Police is trying to convince the protesters especially their leaders that she needs immediate hospitalisation. Nirpreet Kaur’s indefinite fast entered the fifth day on Tuesday while Sikhs continue their protest on the 8th day.

Nirpreet Kaur, one of the eyewitnesses in the 1984 anti- Sikh riots has been on an indefinite fast for the last five days. Though the doctors say that her condition is stable, she needed medical attention as her parameters were slipping alarmingly. “Kaur has been on fast after Sajjan Kumar was acquitted and she is determined to continue her fast till she gets justice for herself and for all the riot-affected victims”, one of her supporters said. She has lost five kgs of weight ever since her fast began.

“She is slightly dehydrated and needs medicines. Her blood pressure is at times low and high and is fluctuating. However, her sugar level is normal. She needs to take medicines, fluids like electrol, Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS), lime juice but she has refused to take anything and would want to continue her fast,” said Dr Harivansh K Arora of Guru Harkishan Hospital who has been examining her health from days now.

The protesters continued to register their anguish and rage against the Government and raised slogans demanding the conviction of Congress leader Sajjan Kumar. With support pouring in from the common man of various religious background and leaders of various political parties the protest against the acquittal of Sajjan Kumar is gaining currency with every passing day. The Sikhs protesters have vowed that no matter what until Sajjan Kumar is hanged the protest won’t be over.
