Govt delists veggies to break mandi monopoly
Farmers henceforth will have the liberty to sell their produce directly to the end buyer. In a significant step to curb inflation and check hoarding, the Delhi Government has delisted fruit and vegetables from Azadpur, Keshopur and Shahdara Agriculture Produce Marketing Committees (APMC). “The sale and purchase of fruit and vegetables in the existing market yards and sub-yards shall be regulated and in rest of Delhi, it will be not,” said a Delhi Government official.
Accordingly, the Government has issued notification on Tuesday to this effect. The Pioneer reported delisting of fruit and vegetables from Azadpur, Keshopur and Shahdara APMC. With this notification, farmers from other States are free to sell their products anywhere in the national Capital and they would not be bound to sell it through APMC’s mandi. This will further help in bringing down prices of fruits and vegetables across the city.
“Outside the market yards or sub-yards, there will be no bar on establishment of new markets by other players like, co-operative societies, kisan mandis, NAFED, Mother Dairy, SAFAl etc. bringing competition in the marketing of fruits and vegetables, giving rise to the best practices in the trade and fair play for all,” said the official.
