The Delhi Police on Wednesday issued a notice to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh, asking him to join the probe in connection with farmer Gajendra Singh’s death during a rally organised by the party in Jantar Mantar area last year.
In the notice issued by the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch, which is probing the matter, Singh has been asked to join investigation of the case at the RK Puram Sector 8 office of Crime Branch at 12.30 pm on Thursday, the notice said.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav confirmed that the notice has been sent under Section 160 of CrPC. Besides Singh, an AAP volunteer too was issued a similar notice on Wednesday, said a police officer, adding that so far the Crime Branch has issued similar notices to five persons. However, Singh has rebutted the notice and alleged that the Delhi Police has resorted to a “shameful machination”.
“Modiji’s police have sent a notice in connection with farmer Gajendra Singh’s death around one year after the incident took place, it is a shameful machination,” Singh tweeted.
The Crime Branch unit of the Delhi Police summoned AAP leaders Kumar Vishwas and Ashish Khetan, AAP MP from Punjab Bhagwant Mann and the event organiser Nerraj Pandey along with Singh.
“All the leaders have been summoned for questioning as their role has been found in the unfortunate incident,” said a senior police officer.
During the probe, sources said, police found that AAP leaders and supporters had allegedly motivated Gajendra Singh to hang himself during the rally. Singh, who was father of three children, had allegedly committed suicide during the AAP’s rally against land acquisition in the heart of national Capital, a kilometer away from Parliament House, in presence Delhi Chief Minister Arind Kejriwal and other AAP leaders on April 22, 2015.
When the incident took place where the Gajender Singh from Dausa in Rajasthan kept on crying and screaming sitting on a neem tree, a crowd of 3,500 people, including police and AAP supporters, and even Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia mutely watched Singh hanging himself with a towel. Kejriwal and his team were sitting on the dais while the incident took place.
The AAP leaders were also insensitive over his suicide as they continued with their rally despite body of Gajendra Singh hanging from the tree, a few meters away from the stage.
The case was registered against the AAP leaders on the same day and it was transferred to the Crime Branch. It was also alleged that the AAP volunteers did not allowed police to rush Gajendra Singh in an ambulance from the protest venue. They had stopped the public servant from doing their work, said sources. Gajendra Singh was declared brought dead at RMl hospital. His post-mortem was carried out at lady Hardinge Hospital.
