Four armed men posing as IGl engineers decamped with cash, jewellery and other valuables worth Rs 5 lakh from the residence of a Raj Nagar businessman in Ghaziabad under Kavi Nagar police station. Four assailants armed with knives and pistols barged into R9/83 in Raj Nagar at 1.30 pm. They hogtied businessman Sanjay Singh’s wife Renu and her mother-in-law Asha Rani. “They took about 100-120 gm jewellery and cash of Rs 25,000,” said a senior police official.

Renu said the four men had earlier approached her on August 8 under the guise of engineers from IGl checking for gas leaks. “On 11 August, they visited again and this time she asked them to reinstall the meter. Then said they would visit the following day. On 12 August at 1.30 pm they visited the house but seeing a domestic help went looking for an innocuous copper wire. They returned half an hour later only to overpower the two defenseless women at home,” said a senior police officer said.

Before leaving the house they disabled the security camera. “A case has been registered and police are trying to nab the criminals. Call detail records too are being tracked,” said SP City Shiv Hari Meena.
