The Delhi Police Special Cell arrested two members of a Malda-based syndicate on Monday, involved in pumping and circulating Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICNs) printed in Pakistan and infiltrated through Indo-Bangladesh border.
The accused has been identified as Vikas Kumar sharma(36) and Moti lal Basak(40). Police claim to have recovered FICNs amounting to Rs3 lakh and bust the gang. Police came to know about the Malda-based syndicate in April this year.
A team was formed under the supervision of Inspector Sanjay Dutt and a raid was conducted near ISBT Anand Vihar in the national Capital on Monday. The two accused were nabbed. They were apprehended while exchanging a consignment of huge quantity of Fake Indian Currency Notes.
“During the initial investigation of the case, it was revealed that the recovered FICNs were printed in Pakistan, and infiltrated in India through Indo-Bangladesh border. The accused Moti lal Basak had received the recovered FICNs from his mentors at Malda District in West Bengal. He brought the FICNs to Delhi to deliver to the co-accused Vikas Kumar Sharma, who reached Delhi from Patiala in Punjab.
Both the accused are in police custody and further investigation of the case is on,” said PS Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of police special cell.
Police said, “While Vikas has two private businesses of his own in his native village, Moti owns a paan-biri shop in Malda. Vikas had suffered huge loss in his business, when he was approached by a person named lala in his village, to enter into this illegal activity. Moti, from a poor family, has been pumping FICNs in India for a long time.”
