Expelled BJP candidate Savita Khatri wins from Narela ward

BJP’s expelled candidate Savita Khattri has won the civic polls from Narela ward. According to the State Election Commission result summary, Khattri won by 12,107 votes and defeated her opponent Kavita from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

It may be noted, Khattri was contesting the election independently with "lotus" symbol after the BJP expelled her as she allowed former AAP Minister Sandeep Kumar to campaign for her. She won on lotus symbol as people despite her being seen in the company of the infamous former Minister.

Kumar, Delhi’s former SC/ST, Social Welfare and Women and Child Development Minister, was sacked by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his role in a sex scandal in August 2016.  He was seen appealing for votes for BJP hopeful Khatri outside a public gathering, following which he spoke to journalists about his disenchantment with both Kejriwal and the AAP.
