Fresh faces flocked the Delhi University campus on Wednesday, the first day of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme. They were excited as well as nervous about the course that began with an orientation programme and interaction with teachers as well as seniors.
“I am really excited about the new beginning in my student life. I look forward to getting amply opportunities in academics and Extra-Curricular Activities at my college. I am going to give my best to everything that comes my way and I am hopeful to bring laurels to this college,” said Richa Sharma, a student of Philosophy Honours at the Daulat Ram College. At SGTB Khalsa College, senior students were participating in an anti-ragging campaign to welcome the freshers.
“We have just started to interact with each other and it is getting very interesting. Even though we are excited to at least pull their legs to create an entertaining atmosphere, there is a sense of responsibility among us. We are trying to advice them on their educational journey further,” said Simarjeet Singh Manchanda, a BCom honours student of the college.
At Ramjas College, which is known for its “best campus life” among the students, corridors were packed with students and teachers. The eating-joints across were also crowded. “Teachers were on rounds ensuring that no ragging was being carried out in the college and were inquiring about the attitude of our seniors. It made us feel secure. The sessions in the classrooms were very interactive and we spent a lot of time in the canteen as well,” said Sanya Arora of the college.
A similar scene was witnessed in the South Campus, where security arrangements were made to avoid any untoward incident such as ragging. Darab Mansoor Ali, who is pursuing Political Science (Honours) from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College of Commerce, shared his fears and fantasies about college life. He said that he was anxious about the college environment but expected his college journey to be a happy-go-lucky one.
“I am scared of strict teachers or seniors, but hope to settle with this anxiety soon. It is a big day for all and I am looking forward to live my dream in this campus,” he added.
