The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested prime accused Udaiveer, alias Kale, and three others in connection with the murder of former INlD MlA Bharat Singh, alias Bharte, from Outer Delhi’s Alipur, Bawana and Najafgarh areas. The three accused Kale (40), Pradhan Sunil (25) and Pehalwan Sube (23) were apprehended from Siraspur village in Alipur area on Saturday night. On their disclosure, another accused Mohit Nagar, alias Monu, alias Chand, (21) was also arrested from Bawana area. One 9 mm automatic carbine, two sophisticated 9 mm pistols and four magazines along with 20 live cartridges were recovered from their possession. A former Sub-Inspector from Punjab Police, who is a personal security officer of Kale, Raman Gurang (43) of Himachal Pradesh was also arrested from Najafgarh.
Kale nursed a grudge with Bhrate and his elder brother Krishan Pehalwan for murdering his father in Sonipat in October 2002. He, along with his nephew Hemant, who is still on the run, hatched the conspiracy to eliminate Bharte. They succeeded to get even with their sworn enemy when he came to attend a function at Abhinandan Vatika in Najafgarh on March 29. Investigators have also identified six more people — including son of a former MlA — who were the part of the killer team formed at the behest of Kale.
Bharte was hit by six bullets — including two in his head from close range. He was later declared dead at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon. His two gunmen, along with a woman and a minor, were also injured in the attack. According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Kumar Yadav, Bharte’s murder was the outcome of an ongoing enmity arising out of family feud of Najafgarh area. The entire conspiracy was hatched by mastermind Kale as he wanted to avenge the killing of his father.
“The enmity began in 2002, when Krishan Pehalwan eliminated Udaiveer’s father Surajmal, his brother Sukhbir Singh and his uncle Naryan Singh at a Sonipat village, where they had gone to attend a marriage function,” Singh said, adding “Again in 2009, Udaiveer had purchased three acres of land from three persons, who were allotted land from the Government. Bharte knew that the said land cannot be sold or purchased and he provoked one of the three and got registered a case against Udaiveer.”
Subsequently, he also sought support from Udaiveer for his MlA election in 2009. But Udaiveer refused to support him and instead supported an Opposition party. Bharte, however, won the election. In 2012, Udaiveer met Vicky and Kuldeep of Najafgarh’s Jharodakalan village, who were also having enmity with Bharat Singh, as he had misbehaved with their paternal aunt (bua). He along with Vicky, Kuldeep, Satish, Virender alias Bholu, Naveen, Ravinder, alias Meenu, Rajender and Padam Dagar planned the attack on Bharte and executed the same on June 2012, outside his party office in Najafgarh. Bharte, however, survived the attack.
Yadav said Hemant, nephew of Udaiveer, was desperate to the take revenge for the murder of his father Sukhbir Singh. Police said when his father was gunned down, he was a minor and now in his early 20s, Hemant arranged the weapons to execute the plan. Additional Commissioner of Police Ashok Chand said, “Hemant had information about Bharat’s arrival at AbhinandanVatika.”
Hemant, along with Nitin, Ravi, alias Chooza, Monu, alias Chand, Ravi, Pradhan Sunil, Pehalwan Sube and Deva met at the residence of Udaiveer and planned the attack on Bharte. Hemant arranged the weapons. “Nitin and Ravi went on black Pulsar motorcycle to AbhinandanVatika. Hemant and others went in white Scorpio SUV arranged owned by Amit alias Sonu, relative of Hemant. They all assembled near Anaj Mandi, close to the banquet hall,” Chand said, adding, “Kale remained present at his house.”
