The protest against unauthorised construction in Hauz Khas area of south Delhi led by former law Minister Somnath Bharti on Monday turned violent as supporters of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) thrashed a senior engineer with the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC). On the basis of the complainant of DC south zone of the civic body VK Bidhuri, a case has been registered under Sections 186, 353, 332/34, 506 at the Safdarjung Enclave police station against four persons.

In his complaint, Bidhuri said that around four men had barged in his office and were arguing over the issue of ‘demolition of buildings’ in the area. He also said they assaulted the executive engineer, building division with the south zone of the SDMC over the issue of sealing in Hauz Khas Village. “The complainant has the name of one accused identified as Dayanand mentioned and also others among whom he claimed that few were AAP members and were wearing the signature cap,” said a police official.

Bharti along with party supporters was protesting outside the SDMC’s south zone office in Green Park area on Monday morning. “The incident occurred when Ashok Kumar, executive engineer with SDMC was about to enter the office after putting his biometric attendance. Three to four miscreants wearing AAP caps physically assaulted him over the sealing drive in Hauz Khas village by the corporation over illegal construction. The unidentified men started mouthing that he is the person involved in the sealing drive and thrashed him. An MlC has been done and the case has been registered in the incident,” Bidhuri told The Pioneeer.

later, Bharti however refused that the men who assaulted the MCD engineer belonged to his party and said, “I don’t think that there is any direct connection of these men to the party. I have come here to protest over the unauthorized construction,” said a defiant Bharti who was seen hurling accusations to the MCD employees and later involved in over an hour long discussions with the south zone’s top bras.
