In an attempt to connect subjects’ knowledge to real working world, former Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Singh has launched the websites of ‘The college of startups’ and ‘The internet college’ on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering Dinesh Singh said, “Both the institutions make use of a unique pedagogy and new age technology to redefine education, enable the youth and address the needs and challenges of the real world through hands-on, interdisciplinary knowledge and skills. The internet college will run a series of mentored and hand-on programmes in English”, he said.
“The idea is to enable students and jobseekers with useful skills and impart learning in interactive environment. The institutions will focus greatly on increasing the number of job creators,” he said.
Singh further said, “The college of startups is a unique enterprise that is much more than a traditional accelerator for startups. Innovative startup ideas that address the needs and challenges of the real world will be nurtured in every capacity from the initial stage. The institutions have already conducted two unique learning experiments.”
The session also witnessed panel discussions, organised to understand if academic studies have helped people in their practical professional life. Most of the panelist agreed that whatever they studied were never of major use in their professional life.
Rajat Dhingra, who had majored in Mathematics, said, “I am doing the same job which another person from different academic stream is also doing. Where does the role of anything I studied in Mathematics come into play nowIJ”
However, the second panel consisted of people from industries and they their shared some pointers as to what they consider during the time of hiring a student.
“Fresh students passing out from Universities can never have practical knowledge regarding any subject. Rather, they lack in theoretical knowledge as well. While hiring them, I see whether the candidate has a passion towards the job or whether he is a keen learner.” said Salman Mohmed, co-founder of Rozegary services.
Both the institutions have received immense attention from academician across the world. The ‘Imperial college of Science and Technology’ (london) which ranks 8th in the world, has signed up a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to speed up the process.
