Four-time Congress MLA from Chandni Chowk Assembly seat, Prahlad Singh Sawhney, joined the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday in presence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The ex-Congress leader, who was defeated by AAP candidate Alka Lamba in 2015, said he is impressed by the AAP's developmental work.

Welcoming Sawheny to his party, Kejriwal said, "There are a lot of good leaders in other parties who are looking towards AAP. I wholeheartedly welcome Prahlad Sawhney and I appeal to all the good leaders of the country, irrespective of the party they belong to, to join AAP in the interest of the nation."

Kejriwal said "The kind of work that our party has done in the last five years is commendable. Be it education or health, the world is recognizing us for all that we have done. People all over the world are talking about Mohalla Clinics. The Government also installing three lakh CCTV cameras and two lakh street lights in the city in six months, which no other city in the world has been able to do,"

He further said that no other city has been able to construct 1,000 PHCs (Primer Health Care Centers) in five years. People from all over India and leaders from other political parties are admiring all that is done by AAP, he added.

Sawhney said, "I have no desire for power or an election ticket. People in my locality are so happy about the kind of developmental work that Delhi government has done in the fields of education, health, power, transport and so on that people themselves come forward and say this time their vote is for Kejriwal. The provision of cheap water and electricity has been especially impactful with most people in my area getting zero bills for electricity."

AAP Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament and recently appointed Delhi Assembly election in-charge Sanjay Singh said that he hoped Sawhney will be a pillar of strength to the AAP as he has been to the INC.

Meanwhile, reaction on his induction in the AAP, a senior Congress leader said that the party is unaffected of the development. He said that Prahlada Singh Sawhney had won all the election because of Congress vote bank. "His son Punardeep Singh contested MCD election in 2017 from Chandni Chowk ward and secured only 27 per cent of total votes polled while the Congress got more than 30 per cent votes in the Assembly," he said.
