Former Rajya Sabha MP, Narendra Tomar, his wife and son have been convicted in a case of dowry death. Tomar, who was elected on Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket, was named as  co-accused by police, along with his wife, after his daughter-in-law was found dead in his Ghaziabad house on April 6, 2016.

The court of Additional District Judge (ADJ)-I awarded seven years’ imprisonment to his son and slapped a  penalty of

Rs 50,000 him. The court will pronounce the quantum of punishment to the former MP and his wife on Monday.

The court has sought report from the district administration about the credentials of the health of the former MP  after the defence lawyer prayed for leniency to him. Court also sought a report from the Chief Medical Officer regarding the health of his wife Devendri.

The defence lawyer Ram Autar Gupta said all the three accused persons were present in the court but  Molik Raj Kashyap the grand son of the former MP fell ill and they rushed him to their home.  "We told the court of the  sudden illness. The court will pronounce their quantum of punishment on Monday,” he said.

The accused persons were held guilty under section 306 of IPC which was not applied by the police in the charge sheet.  The charges were framed under 304 (B), 498 (A), 302, 34 of IPC and 3/4 dowry prohibition Act.

Earlier on January 24 of this year, Tomar, along with his wife and son, was held guilty by the local court of ADJ (1st) Shashi Bhushan Pandey

Police had named Narendra Kashyap, his wife Devendri  Devi, son Sagar, younger son Siddharth, sister- in- laws Sarita and Shobha under section 304 B, 498 A of IPC and 3/4 of dowry prohibition Act on the complaint of Himani's uncle Om Prakash.

During trial all the 16 witnesses proved hostile.  But court hold them guilty under section 306 of IPC which was not enforced by the police in charge sheet added defence lawyer Ram Autar Gupta.

The MP's daughter in-law was found dead with gunshot injury under mysterious circumstances in the bathroom in her home in Ghaziabad.

Police said Himani Kashyap (29) was married to Sagar Kashyap — the elder son of the MP about two years ago. Himani —  mother of about a year old son —was the daughter of Hira lal Kashyap, former Minister in the Mayawati Government in UP in the last regime.

A licensed pistol in her husband's name was found lying alongside her dead body. As the family members came to know after hearing the gun shot about the incident they rushed her to a local Yashoda Hospital where she was declared brought dead. "The family members had not informed police about the incident. Police came to know from the hospital,” said sources.
