The Economic Offence Wings (EOW) of the East, West and South zones have been set up at the office of Gurugram’s police Commissioners office.

“With this, cases involving money and land will be dealt with more efficiently. The victims don’t want to inquire about their matter at different locations. Now complainants from all three zones can get follow-up report in the same office,” an official with EOW said.

The EOW of the city police has cracked around 349 out of 393 complaints cases this year so far. While around 44 complaints were still pending with the wing and 5 complaints have been recommended for a FIR.

Also, the economic offences wing (EOW) of the city police has cracked around 2,411 out of 2,625 fraud cases at the previous year so far. While the remaining cases is still under probe. In 2015, the figure was 2,287 and interestingly all the cases were solved by the wing.

An officer of the rank of Inspector is in charge of EOW cells of the Gurugram Police. “Besides, investigating officials will be required to submit the status report along with the complaint statement to the police commissioner within 15 days of registration of a FIR,” a police official said.

“In the previous year, we have registered around 1,155 land fraud cases, which were related to a single builder firm from the south zone. We have sent the accused behind the bars. Mostly cases, which are registered in the cell are related to the property fraud,” Assistant Commissioner of police (ACP) Manish Sehgal, said.

“We have issued clear instructions to all zone EOW in-charge to crack the cases effectively and support the victims, as much they can. We have noticed that fraud cases are now rising in the city. Sometimes our EOW team also supports teams from various police stations to the arrest accused,” he added.

Meanwhile, Atul Sharma, a victim said, “I was also cheated by builders from Sector-18 Gurugram. When I went to file my complaint with West EOW cell, they accepted my complaint but didn’t give me any confirmation.”
