The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police has registered a cheating case against Abhishek Verma, the prime accused in the Navy War Room leak case and fashion designer Siddhartha Tytler, son of a Congress leader Jagdish Tytler and their associates for allegedly duping Rs5 crore of a US-based telecom company on the pretext of setting up a cellular service firm for rural India in a joint venture in India. The complainant alleged that the accused persons assured him that they have good relations with senior politicians and they will set up his cellular service firm here with their help.
Police said that the complaint was made by one Joseph Rubinstein and on the basis of the victim’s complaint, a case was registered under Sections 420, 467, 468, 406, 471, 120-B and 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) at EOW and probe is on. Rubinstein alleged that the accused persons asked him to start their company in a joint venture in India with them and asked him to invest in it. “In the complaint filed by Rubinstein, TCM Mobile llC said its subsidiary Corewip entered into a joint venture promoted by Tytler’s son Siddhartha and arms agent Abhishek Verma to set up a cellular service for rural India after they assured it that top politicians were on board,” the officer added.
The complainant told police that it had plans to set up a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) project in rural India and Verma arranged meetings with Tytler in 2009 to build their confidence.
“Before we invested in the company, we met with the complainants several times and were assured by them. Around Rs5 crore that it put into the project was fraudulently withdrawn by Verma and his associates after forging documents,” the officer added.
