Candidates who appeared for the entrance examination of MPhil and PhD in Buddhist Studies at the Delhi University (DU) on July 5 have complained that the question paper for the two separate degrees was “same”. They have written to Vice Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi demanding re-conducting the entrance examination for PhD.
“There are 50 questions in the entrance examination papers of each MPhil and PhD in Buddhist Studies. Out of the 50 questions, 37 were same in content and serial number. This is mere injustice to the students who were appearing only for the PhD,” Ashish Singh, President of Student for Academic Excellence and Inclusive Growth told The Pioneer.
The exam for MPhil and PhD was scheduled for the same day while the former was in the morning and latter in the evening, a reason that has made the PhD students worried.
“While the MPhil exam was from 8 to 10 am, the PhD exam was scheduled for 4 pm. Some students had applied for both and MPhil students were benefitted,” added Singh.
Singh also said that the students demand the change of the Head of the Department of the Buddhist Studies alleging that “It is because him the injustice has taken place.”
Delhi University admission season is one of the most tiresome and goes on from May to August every year. While the University manages a great rush to its undergraduate courses online and through cut-offs, it conducts entrance examinations for the post-graduate and research programmes. Around seven undergraduate courses of the university also do admissions through entrance examination.
