Enjoying the rain on the street outside his home in Central Delhi’s Anand Parbat proved fatal for a 33-year-old man who was allegedly attacked with wooden sticks in front of his father by two inebriated men on Sunday night.
According to a senior police officials, the attackers were angry with the victim, identified as Radhey Shyam, as he had accidentally splashed some rainwater on them while they were passing by the area.
On Monday, the accused were identified as Shashi Bhushan (32), and Pankaj (30), both residents of Anand Parbat. Police also recovered the two blood-stained wooden sticks that were used by the two accused for attacking the man.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Parmaditya said the murder came to their notice around 10.30 pm after the police control room received a call regarding a quarrel in Gali number 4, industrial area in Anand Parbat. A police team reached the area and learnt that the injured man, Radhey Shyam, was already taken to lady Harding Hospital.
“Our team reached the hospital where doctors informed them Shyam had succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Accordingly, a murder case was registered and investigation was taken up,” said Parmaditya.
A senior investigating officer said that Shyam was getting drenched in the monsoon rain and was jumping in joy in the rainwater collected on the street, as his father stood nearby. Bhushan and Pankaj were returning home on a motorcycle after work through the same street. As they were passing by, Shyam accidentally splashed some water on them.
The two stopped their two-wheeler and entered into an argument with Shyam. Their altercation soon turned into a fight during which the two repeatedly attacked him with wooden sticks on his head. His father rushed to rescue him and pleaded before the attackers to spare his son. However, the two continued attacking him till he collapsed on the street and started bleeding profusely. The attackers fled the crime scene.
“We identified the attackers during probe and arrested them. They told us that after finishing work, they consumed alcohol and were returning home when they entered into a fight with Shyam,” the officer said.
