Electioneering eludes CWG Village

Electioneering eludes CWG Village

Poll fever may have gripped the city, but the inhabitants of the recently populated Commonwealth Games Village Flats are yet to hear the rising pitch of the political trumpet.

Even though this small colony is participating in the Assembly elections for the first time, political parties as well as their candidates are yet to visit the area for electioneering.

At present, over 100 families inhabit the CWG Village residential complex, which has a total of 1,138 flats. Total 23 voters are registered from this locality, which is part of laxmi Nagar Assembly seat.

Residents of the CWG Village sounded confused when asked about their voting preferences in the upcoming elections. "Even though the elections have drawn so close, the political enthusiasm is absent in our area.

Not just the political parties, the Election Commission seems to have neglected the occupants of the CWG flats. There is absolutely no information about the polling centre for our area. Even the booth level officers have not visited the area to get our voting cards updated as per our new addresses," said Manoj Kumar, chairman of the Gardenia real-estate group, who had shifted to the area in 2009, when it was established.

like him, other residents of the CWG village residential complex are clueless about their polling booth and are thus planning to cast their votes at their previous polling stations. "On the day of the elections, my family is planning to cast our votes at Ashok Vihar, our past address. Since there has been information on the candidate contesting from the area and the polling centre, it is better that we cast our votes at our last polling centre. This way, at least we will be able to participate in the polls," said Sangeeta Sharma, who is among the oldest resident of the area.
