Preparations are on in full swing to welcome the new Government and the legislatures. Delhi Government’s General Administration Department (GAD) has started the process to furnish the rooms of the Ministers, Chief Minister and Delhi Assembly. There is a strong possibility of removal of President’s Rule in the next few
days when the election results of Delhi Assembly are announced on Tuesday afternoon. Never mind who forms the Government after notification for the sixth legislative Assembly in Delhi. The GAD has furnished all the offices of Ministers as well as the Chief Minister’s office on the third floor. Delhi Assembly Secretariat premises have been refurbished with fresh coat of white paint. Workers could be seen giving final touches to the British era edifice. Electrical equipment inside the House was being re-laid to ensure no technical snafu when the Assembly meets to welcome its new members. Officials involved in the preparations said that they are on the job to ready the House for its
inaugural session as the new Government would convene the Budget session to draw up its annual budget for 2015-16. Sources told The Pioneer that with the notification for constitution of sixth legislative Assembly by the Election Commission, a proposal to this effect would be sent to President of India by lieutenant Governor of Delhi through Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to revoke President’s Rule in the national Capital.
“Whichever party gets a majority in the House would stake claim to form the Government. The lieutenant Governor will invite the largest party to stake claim in the House. Before convening the new session, the new Chief Minister and his Cabinet will take oath of office. The newly-elected Chief Minister will convene his Cabinet meeting and call an Assembly session,” said former Delhi Assembly Secretary SK Sharma.
According to officials of Delhi Assembly, the whitewashing of the Assembly premises and checking of electrical equipment has been done. “The Speaker’s office and office of the leader of the House in Delhi Assembly are getting last-minute touch-ups,” said officials. Sources in GAD also stated that new computers, chairs and sofas have been brought in for the Chief Minister and his men. The bureaucracy is taking all possible steps to provide modern amenities to the Chief Minister and his Cabinet. On Monday, GAD’s Principal Secretary Anindo Majumdar took stock of the preparations.
