In a bid to accommodate elected representatives in boards, corporations and district development committees, lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has asked Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar Srivastava to provide a list of such bodies.

lieutenant Governor's move is being interpreted in the political circles as an indication that there would be no Assembly elections in the Capital in the near future. Top sources told The Pioneer that that Chief Secretary has asked his top officials to prepare a list of important corporations, boards and district committees where these legislators can be accommodated as the Government was planning to fill key posts in all these important bodies with sitting legislators.

Among the most sought after bodies are the Trans Yamuna Area Development Board, Delhi Khadi & Village Industries Board, Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), Delhi Tourism Development Corporation, Finance and Development Corporation limited and the 11 District Development Committees.  All these bodies are traditionally headed by the local MlAs. But in the absence of any elected Government in the city, these bodies are being headed by senior bureaucrats.

Since no political party has staked claim to form the Government in the national Capital, pressure is being mounted by the MlAs on their respective leaders that they be involved in the administrative decision making so that they can solve the problems of their respective constituencies. The MlAs had earlier demanded that their annual funds be released so that they could carry on with the development activities in their respective constituencies. lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung immediately passed orders that the MlA fund be released so that the development works were not hampered. Each MlA in the city can spend up to Rs 4 crore on the development works in his constituency.
