Two senior citizens - an 85-year-old woman and her 62-year-old son, were killed in Ghaziabad on Friday. The incident occurred in the posh Raj Nagar residential locality which falls under the Kavi Nagar police station area that also houses top civil and police officers.
The police said the victims were identified as Girija Devi, wife of a retired BSNl officer and her son S Kumar, also a retired BSNl officer. They were residents of House No R-14/ 52 Raj Nagar.
The incident came to light on the Friday morning at about 11.30 am when a delivery boy attempted to deliver an lPG gas cylinder. When he did not get any response from inside the house despite repeated bells, he contacted the neighbours. The locals informed the police when they too did not get any response to their knocks at the main gate. The police, after reaching the spot, opened the gate which was found bolted from outside.
As the police reached inside the house, S Kumar was found lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen. His throat had slit mark which probably was the cause of death due to blood loss. As the police reached further inside the home, the elderly lady was found killed in a similar manner in her bedroom.
"We are trying to ascertain the cause of crime. Prima facie it seems a property-related dispute but since the case is under investigation any conclusion would be a hasty disclosure. The bodies have been seized for post-mortem analysis. A team of officers has been assigned to work out the case at the earliest" said the SSP Nitin Tiwari.
