Education sector got a major chunk in the Budget allocation, a part of which will go to building boarding schools for homeless children and a Science Museum in a city school, announced by the Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday. Sisodia announced Rs 16,278 crore for the education sector, a part of which will go to building boarding schools for homeless children and a Science Museum in a city school. Speaking in the Assembly, Sisodia said, “Children from homeless families who live on roadsides, footpaths, under flyovers and stairs or on open places of worship, pavilions, railway platforms etc. are deprived of basic facilities like shelter, food and education.”

“The Government has taken several measures to provide basic education to these children. However, these measures have been only partially successful. It is not possible to get quality education unless basic facilities like food and shelter are in place. The Government has decided to set up a boarding school with modern facilities. These schools will also facilitate the children to live along with education and try to bring them into the mainstream of the society,” Sisodia said

“Delhi Government schools have so far achieved the best results in Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board examinations despite the COVID-19 pandemic and achieved the 99.84 per cent passing percentage considered almost impossible,” Sisodia said. “Now the children of all the rich or poor are setting new records every year in examinations like National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Indian Institutes of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) by taking good education in the government schools of Delhi,” Sisodia said. “The classrooms of all government schools in the national capital will be converted into digital classrooms in the next four years,” Sisodia said.

“Delhi Teachers University has also started its work and is going to provide B.Ed courses from the next session after obtaining necessary approval from the Government of India,” Sisodia further added.
