East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has initiated an amnesty scheme 2018-19 for the property owners to pay their property tax dues.
The amnesty scheme, open for ‘unauthorised’ and ‘unauthorised’ colonies and rural areas, has given a time limit till February 15 for payment of property taxes determined through unit area method.
A senior EDMC official said that the scheme has been launched to widen property tax base of EDMC as majority of residential properties in ‘unauthorised’ and ‘unauthorised regularised’ colonies are still out of the tax net. The unit area method of property tax assessment was introduced from April 1, 2004 to make the system citizen friendly, transparent and avoid corruption. It has also become easy for tax payers to calculate taxes with ease, he said.
