EDMC discusses desilting issues with other civic agencies

Published on:

East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on Wednesday held a meeting with different civic agencies in the national Capital to discuss issues related to desilting of drains before upcoming monsoon.

EDMC Mayor Bipin Bihari Singh chaired the meeting that was attended by officials of EDMC, Public Works Department (PWD), Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Delhi Development Authority and National Highway Authority of India.

Mayor expressed dismay as senior officials of PWD did not come to attend the meeting and those who were representing the civic agency did not have enough information about its drains in the jurisdiction of EDMC.

Singh said that the officials of PWD informed him that desilting of their drains comes under EDMC jurisdiction, has been completed about only10 to 15 percent.

Mayor said that monsoon is about to approach the city very soon and this lackluster attitude of PWD's officials and other civic agencies under Delhi Government shows its insensitive approach towards citizens that may lead to  water logging and clogging.

He asked the officials of the PWD and Irrigation and Flood Control Department to ensure desilting of all their drains should be done soon to avoid water logging in the areas.
