East Delhi to get Dilli Haat too as DDA gives go-head

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has given its nod for setting up of another Dilli Haat. The proposal to set up a Delhi Haat in the East Delhi, which had been doing rounds in the authority for over four months, was finally taken up in an authority meeting and approved on Wednesday.

In the meeting, the DDA decided to change its land-use policy in East Delhi, informed an official. "The DDA has allowed the use of 27,000 square metres of land for commercial purpose," he added. But the authority has also made it clear that the proposal for change of land use after DDA's approval has to be processed under Section 11 A of the Delhi Development Act.

The new Delhi Haat is expected to be constructed on the Shahdra link drain near Mayur Vihar Phase-1. "Covering the Shahdara link Drain, the haat will be constructed over an area surrounded by Mayur Vihar Phase 1 MRTS and CGHS society in the East, and Delhi-Noida link Road in the West," said a senior DDA official.

According to sources, the haat will have the maximum ground coverage of 40 per cent and a Floor Area Ratio of 40. Meanwhile, it is said to have a height of eight metres as per the provisions in the Master Plan 2021.

However, the authority has also clarified that the construction of the haat will only begin after clearances from multiple agencies.

"The development will be subject to various clearances to be taken by DTTDC of Delhi Government, like environmental clearance, clearance from Irrigation and Flood Control Department, clearance from UTTIPEC with respect to traffic circulation system, entry / exit, parking etc," an official said.

This decision has come despite the fact that the DDA had already earmarked a piece of land near Geeta Colony to create a new Delhi Haat. The authority, however, believes that the land was too small to accommodate a food and craft market of the same grandeur as Delhi Haat.

"For a market like Delhi Haat a land of around 3 acres is required. Above all, area like Mayur Vihar is far more ideal than a place like Geeta Colony. Besides, the new location will also be easily accessible from metro stations falling in the Dwarka-Noida line," they said.

A status review of the Master Plan 2021 was also taken up in the meeting. Moreover, villages identified as low density residential area were declared as Development Area in the meeting.
