Henceforth, you can register an FIR online for your missing vehicles as Delhi Police launched online registration of motor vehicle theft app in South District on Thursday. Five FIRs were also registered on the first day during its trial run in South district.
An e-police station has been created under Crime Branch for registration of cases for motor vehicle theft. Beta testing, the app will be rolled out for all police stations in Delhi and will be available on mobile and web. A sufficient number of staff in all police stations working as duty officers and investigation officers has been trained to help those who are not tech-savvy for facilitating registration of FIR.
According to a statement by Delhi Police, motor vehicle thefts in Delhi are a cause of public frustration and anger towards police. Public expects early recovery of vehicles and apprehension of culprits because MV theft causes not only an economic loss but also loss of mobility. Investigation into auto thefts rarely proceeds from crime to criminal because no tell-tale signs are left at the scene of crime. The breakthrough in these cases invariably is the consequence of human or technical intelligence-based operations.
Since most of motor vehicles are insured, victims expect police to promptly register their complaint and take up investigation for early finalisation of the case so that they can claim insurance if the vehicle is not recovered.
