A professor of Dyal Singh Evening College was arrested by the Delhi Police late evening on Wednesday on the charges of molestation. The accused, identified as Dr Mani Bhushan, a faculty member in the Political Science department, allegedly molested a student five months back. According to sources, Bhushan was on medical leave till now causing a delay in action.
An FIR had been registered with the police following the incident in November, 2013 based on the allegation by the family members of the girl stating that Bhushan had molested the victim on the ruse of passing her in the exam. However, since the accused wasn’t arrested till now, the victim’s mother, also a Delhi Police inspector, created a scene in the college premises on Wednesday evening. The arrest took place straight after that.Reportedly, the victim was harassed by other teachers in the college after she filed the complaint against Bhushan and no interest was shown by college officials in the matter.
“There were three female teachers from her department who used to send her to Bhushan. However, after my daughter refused to go to him, he directly assaulted her on November 14. Complaints were made by my daughter to the principal but all went in vain,” said the victim’s mother. The three teachers have been identified as Sumita Puri, Madhuri Chawla and Priti Vishwas.
After the arrest, Bhushan was questioned by the police on Thursday evening at the lodhi Colony police station. “Once evidence was found against him, he was arrested. Though he has denied the charges, he has been sent to judicial custody,” said a police official. Bhushan also applied for bail which has been rejected by the court, said a source.
