Miffed over the protest steered by a few of the faculty members against Dyal Singh Evening becoming a Morning College, Pawan K Sharma, principal of Dyal Singh evening said the “ultra-left” groups are creating hurdles as they just want to politicise the issue and create unrest on the campus.
Sharma said those protesting or organising public meeting are using innocent students for their own selfish-ends for settling scores with opponents and propagating unrest. A few teachers of Dyal Singh Morning organised a public meeting against the alleged “bifurcation” of college, they protested under the banner of “Save Dyal Singh College” which was allegedly interrupted for a while by few students from morning and also some outside students. A faculty member, who participated in the public meeting, rued that the alleged “bifurcation” will put immense pressure on the limited resources the college has.
“There are more than 5,000 students in the morning college and 3000 in the evening college. And if evening college is converted into morning college on the same land, which is 11.8 acres, it will result in only about 4 to 5 square feet per student,” said PK Parihar, a faculty member. He said the college has not been bifurcated yet and evening classes are going illegally. On the other hand, an Executive Council (EC) member of Delhi University said the conversion of Dyal Singh Evening into a morning college has already been approved by Academic Council (AC) and EC. Sharma said there is no constrain or burden on the morning college due to the conversion, since the classes are being conducted in separately build infrastructure.
He refuted the allegations that the said conversion has put immense burden on limited resources. Dyal Singh College recently made news when Governing Body of College approved the name change of Dyal Singh Evening as “Vande Mataram Mahavidyalaya”, however the GB decision was never implemented as it was not approved by Government.
