DUTA takes out march against 7th pay recommendations

Teachers of Delhi University under the aegis of Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) took out a protest march on Tuesday against the recommendations of 7th Central Pay Commission(CPC. They rallied from Mandi House to Parliament Street in the Capital and submitted a detailed memorandum to the MHRD.

DUTA president Rajib Ray said the proposed pay structure “will hurt interests of teachers awaiting permanent placements and promotions”. “College teachers have been downgraded at every level. Even principals have been downgraded from the level of the professor to that of the associate professor after the completion of their tenure. This is an indirect way of denying professorship in colleges,” Ray said.

The DUTA also reiterated its demand to make public the UGC Pay Review Committee report. “The DUTA has submitted a memorandum with a detailed critique of the 7th Pay Revision for teachers to the HRD Ministry. The DUTA demands an immediate rollback of the adverse provisions of the proposed pay structure,” he said in a statement.

DUTA alleges that proposed pay structure will hurt the interests of teachers awaiting permanent placements and promotions.

“This MHRD notification shockingly gives no reference to the revised pension benefits for retired teachers. In one of the most brutal assaults on higher education in recent times, the MHRD notification threatens to reduce funds to the Central and the State universities respectively,” stated DUTA press release. DUTA also demanded that UGC pay review committee report should immediately be made public.
