DUTA observes black day to protest delay in grants to 12 colleges

Following the delay in grants to 12 DU colleges, the Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) on Saturday observed ‘Black Teachers’ Day’ to protest against the Delhi Government.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) dispensation and the varsity have been locked in a tussle over formation of governing bodies in 28 colleges, 12 of which are fully funded by the Delhi Government.

According to DUTA officials, the Government has released inadequate grants to colleges, which has led to delay in salaries of the staffers of the respective colleges at a time when people are in the middle of a pandemic.

On Saturday, the teachers had called for a protest at the Arts Faculty to protest against the Government. They were detained and taken to Maurice Nagar police station, they alleged.

“There were around 100 DUTA members protesting. They did not have the permission for it. They have been detained and taken to Maurice Nagar police station. Further proceeding will be taken as per law,” said a senior police official.
