Claiming it to be first-ever in the history of Delhi University, the NSUI-led Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) is coming up with a magazine named “D-Youth” which plans to explicitly cover the student issues and news related to Delhi University (DU) and its colleges.

The magazine that would be made available at ‘nominal’ prize will be an annual one containing approximately 130 pages. “We are launching it in annual mode but if its demand increases we will think over publishing it on quarterly basis also,” said Rocky Tuseed, President of DUSU.

“It is for the first time in the almost 96 year’s old history of the DU, that any such magazine is being launched by DUSU for the larger welfare of student community,” said Rocky. He said that Delhi University which is much behind in the ‘QS ranking’ of world universities has to strive hard for achieving a good rank and such steps would prove helpful.

Slated to launch in the month of April i.e. almost parallel with the opening of registration process for admissions, the first edition of magazine would also act as a guide for aspirants and their guardians.

The DUSU has plans to deploy a team of 25 editors and about 150 reporters, majority of them women, selected from among the student community to contribute for the edition.

“The D-Youth will cover all aspects related to the admission process and will contain all the relevant information about colleges, courses etc.,” said the president.

He said that the magazine would be made available at key-points including Vishwavidyalaya metro station for the convenience of aspirants. Apart from containing details about admission process , the magazine would also cover interviews, student opinions, teacher opinion pieces and history of Delhi University and various colleges.

Further, DUSU has constituted a Cell for Gender Sensitisation to address the issues of gender discrimination and sexual harassment in the University.

It will have a committee of 50 members on board, who would be selected after an initial screening followed by an interview. The Cell will have DUSU president as Chairman and a convener along with two co-conveners for its functioning.

DUSU has already invited applications for the same and claimed to have received more than 100 applications. “We will try to ensure that about one-third members of committee would be from transgender community,” said Rocky. He said that over the years a stereo-type has been established that DUSU office space are not safe for women particularly girls, “We are working to break this stereotype by ensuring maximum participation of women in every activity of DUSU,” he said.
