Nine people, including Delhi University Students’ Union president Satender Awana, have been booked for attempt to murder, molestation, demanding and harassing for dowry at Noida’s Sector-20 police station.
A newly married woman of their family has lodged an FIR against them after a dispute in the family. A video surfaced before police in which some of the accused were caught threatening her.
Police said victim who got married with Mohit Awana in May, 2015, has alleged that her husband and father-in-law Ashahram Awana, mother-in-law Baleshari, brother-in-laws Nakul Awana, Satender Awana and sister-in-laws Ritu Awana, Nitu Awana and Rishi Awana beaten her up and tried to strangle her after a dispute for dowry at their home in Sector-19 on Saturday.
Victim alleged that the accused forcibly pushed her outside the house to leave the place forever. She, however, informed the police on 100 but they did not help her on time and the accused managed to flee home, victim said.
She later informed the incident to her brothers and father after the incident. It has been alleged that Satender Awana and Rishi Awana, leader of Samajwadi Party in Noida called their goons and allegedly beat them badly at the presence of local police.
They even threatened police officials to transfer them within a minute.
The victim in her complaint told to police that her parents had organised her marriage with great celebrations and had fulfilled their all demands. Despite this, they have been assaulting her over demands of Jaguar Car and Rs 10 lakh dowry from her parents. She told police that her parents, however, had given Rs 20 lakh earlier. When she refused to more dowries, they started assaulting her and the male family members allegedly molested her with intent to outrage her modesty.
Superintendent of Police Dinesh Yadav said “We have registered an FIR under Section 498 A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 323(Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 307 (attempt to murder) of Indian Penal Code and Dowry acts in Sector-20 police station. The matter is being investigating by the police and the accused will be arrested soon.”
